‘The Soil Sleuth’

I stumbled across this article (“Forensic science: The soil sleuth”) via a post on Facebook that read “The Sherlock Holmes of Soil.” My first thought was, “Isn’t that rather redundant?” Holmes was the Holmes of soil. The man knew dirt. I shrugged off my eye-rolling and continued to the article, and it was really interesting! Forensic geologist Lorna Dawson has made some exciting and innovative strides in the field, and the article outlines some of the cases she’s worked on. Very cool stuff! Of course, the writer brings up Holmes and his smarty-pants knowledge of mud and filth (proceeds to get a little sniffy about his potentially outdated knowledge — the nerve! :D). ~ Chat
