For two years, Art in the Blood has been dormant largely because ScarletSherlock and I stopped wanting to be involved in the Sherlockian community after our personal experiences with Chris Redmond and others, who perpetuated a culture of mean-spiritedness and disenfranchisement that was at best off-putting and, at worst, threatening and upsetting.
In light of recent events, I’ve decided to start attending events again, and I think, perhaps, this is the right time to relaunch the site. Back when I started my first forum, Holmesian.net, I envisioned it being a fun, welcoming place to talk about Sherlock Holmes from both a scholarly and a silly point-of-view. This was before Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr were the dominant fannish spaces. While those platforms have their place (gracious knows I’m on Twitter all the time), I hope to offer another platform here where conversations and camaraderie can take place.
ScarletSherlock and I have been, and will continue to be, committed to hosting a harassment-free forum. Please come and post your fic, your reviews, your art work, your speculations, and your random hilarity. Everyone is welcome, and this is not a gendered space. Please come bring your brilliant insights and know that we have your back. Demeaning discourse will simply not be tolerated, and moderation will be active to make sure of that. We hope to see you all soon.
Art in the Blood is going to undergo some cosmetic changes, but we are back up and ready for business. Sign up to comment, or sign back in to join the conversation.
I’m heading down to NYC for the May session of Priory Scholars, so keep an eye out for some live-tweeting. We’ve also got the premier of the final season of Elementary, so again … more tweeting and reviewing.
