GRIDLOCK DC BRINGS SECOND YEAR OF SHERLOCK HOLMES FAN EVENT TO DC METRO AREA
Bethesda, MD — GridLOCK DC is excited to announce its second annual convention focused on celebrating Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes and its surrounding lore and adaptations.
The festivities open on August 7, 2015 with Sherlock Holmes-themed burlesque at the famous Black Cat bar on 14th Street, commencing at 9:30 pm. (This event is 21+ only). Official programming for the fan-run convention begins 10:00 am on August 8 and concludes on August 9. Details regarding the schedule will be released in mid-July.
The convention consists of academic panels on Sherlock Holmes, Victorian culture, and fandom culture. Speakers include Peter Blau, BSI, ASH, historian Meg (forsciencejohn), James Carlopio, Kate Tracy, and more. Panels include a discussion on the new Mr. Holmes film, the influences of Shakespeare and Wilde upon Holmesian adaptations, societal and problematic issues in the Holmesian canon, and Sherlock Holmes and Children’s Literature. GridLOCK DC will also host a viewing and discussion with the creators of S(her)lock: The Web Series, a feminist and LGBTQ-positive Holmesian adaptation.
There will be an exhibition hall with Sherlock Holmes related artwork and merchandise for sale by artists like AnotherWellKeptSecret, Inchells, SakiBatch, Azureverie, Amy Zen, and Fox Estacado. Other programming includes a costume contest, a fiction writing workshop, and more!
GridLOCK DC will be held at the Hyatt Regency in Bethesda, MD, which is conveniently located on the Red Line of the Washington DC Metro System at the Bethesda station.
