Violet Hunter replied to the topic George Boole = Professor Moriarty Y/Y? in the forum Arthur Conan Doyle 7 years, 5 months ago
I always got the impression that Moriarty was made a professor super super young. Boole was appointed aged 34. That’s some strong work!! Goddamn overachievers! I think I might be visiting Cork sometime next year (DH will go work there for a bit) so I’ll have to visit his grave. The story about his death though…
“One day in 1864, Boole walked…[Read more]

Cambridge is beautiful, but very very weird.
Did you guys watch Basil then? I wouldn’t have been able to join in anyway as there was an impromptu party at mine (I hide in the bath with a book).
Edit: Oh, I see you have scheduled it for next week. Well, that’s 2 am my time, so I may pass. 😉

I love SH22!! I somehow missed it as a kid though, and only watched it after I was a Holmes fan. Some seriously strange science in it though (preserved in HONEY?!). I thought that robo!Watson was especially tragic. I feel like Holmes would actually be pretty upset by this. Also, horay for female (actually capable) Lestrade.

Whut. Natalie Dormer was Moriarty?????
No seriously, I did not know that! Not bothered about spoilers as I doubt I will ever see Elementary…… but that makes me want to go look it up a little bit. I am slightly in love with her.

I dunno if I will make a tweet along… two reasons really. Reason 1. Friday night is Hannibal Night for me and the DH. 2. My twitter is mainly for science stuff, and various official twitter accounts follow me, and I… errr… yeah. 😉 What are you watching though?
I’m totally just biased on Cambridge, because I’m from there. 😉 BUT, he did…[Read more]

Violet Hunter replied to the topic Ebooks vs Books. in the forum Alpha Public House 7 years, 5 months ago
I’m a mix of both. I have to take the train a lot, and the Kindle really is a godsend. At the moment I’m reading a textbook, and I just wouldn’t be able to lug that thing around with me… whereas the pdf was free online as it was an out of date version. Also, Guttenberg project, omgosh free literature. Free literature EVERYWHERE. The Kindle is…[Read more]

Oh, really? I assumed it was something the fans must have made up themselves. :-/ If it’s not, then screw idiots who use it! As if there’s something wrong with being a fan of Benzedrine Cucumberpits (look I can’t NOT ok!!). Yes, yes, we women are serial ruiners, look how we do terrible things like invent the whole genre of sci-fi etc etc, we have…[Read more]

• Nevertheless, I actually rewatched this film just because it’s one of the few times ever that the Professor and the Colonel share screentime! This is a HUGE oversight on the part of over a century of Sherlockiana! [/quote]You are so right, I don’t know how this has never occurred to me before. Goddamn. Get it together, Holmes ada…[Read more]

I hope this is the right place for this… but on BBC iPlayer right now is the whole of the Sherlock Holmes Prom… http://www.bbc.co.uk/events/egnrzc#b0663l7z
It features music from lots of different adaptations, has a stab at guessing some of the solos Irene Adler may have sung, and also the Polyphonic Motets of Lassus. 😉
If any…[Read more]

Yeah, I always thought Sherlockian was what the Americans called themselves. Being a Brit, it’s Holmesian for me! But I’ve always been pretty awful at pronouncing words when I first encounter them written down. So I often say it Holmes-neees-ian. I dunno, I can’t talk proper, like.
I’ve never watched Elementary, and so never heard Deductioneer,…[Read more]
